School has started
We have 3 of the kiddos in school now. Hayden is in 4th grade. Holden
is in full day kindergarten (so that he can go to the same school as
Hayden and ride the same bus). Regina is in preschool 2 mornings a
week. It has changed the days quite a bit. It's just me and the girls
at home during the day. It's amazing how much quieter it is minus 2
children. We're enjoying the routine a lot. It's been good for all of
us. It was a tough summer.
Our evenings and weekends remain pretty busy. Hayden is busy with
karate 3 days a week and scouts 3 times a month. Holden has soccer 2
days a week. The girls and I will start an early education class
together next week. Dan has been working from home quite a bit in the
shop (our outbuilding). We all enjoy seeing him more often. We are
liking our new house a lot and are getting used to the extra drive that
comes with living in the country.
I have made the decision to quit our gym since we are working on intense
attachment therapy with the girls right now. They were continuing to
have indiscriminate behaviors with everyone and anyone. So we have
narrowed down their touching (hugs, kisses, hand holding, lap sitting,
etc..) to Dan and me only. It requires quite a bit of work on our part
since no one can even give them a high five. We started getting very
serious about it a few days ago and will continue to focus on it for the
next 4-6 months until they only come to us for their affection needs.
Unfortunately, the girls look at every new adult as a potential mommy or
daddy. Therefore, they think they need to become friendly, charming,
and physical with them in case that is the person that will feed them
and care for them from now on. They are afraid of no one and will go to
everyone for physical touch within minutes of meeting them. It is
typical of orphanage behavior since they rotated caregivers so
often..and they have had many moves in their lifetime so they don't
really know that this is any different. If this is not resolved early
on then the girls will always have indiscriminate relationships
throughout their lifetime. They will never learn to rely on consistent
people for their safety, comfort, love, and warmth. It was getting
scary for personal safety reasons. We certainly have our work cut out
for us. Please pray for us as their parents and for the girls'
reception to this.
